FOOD & CULTURE

Food and Culture is an elective module which aims to examine and explore how the act of food preparing and consuming influences space and place making in architecture through the act of research and on site experiences. It emphasizes on the processes of experiencing, capturing, diagramming, and identifying the spatial relationship of food culture within community that shape its identity of their built environment

Learning Outcomes

1. Write a short research based on investigation, analysis and reading of the subject matter

2. Analyze and document food culture in relation to architecture and the built environment

3. Experience and interpret their observation onto visual presentation

PROJECT 1 - RESEARCH PROPOSAL 

Part A of the assignment prepares the students to the basics of writing a research proposal. The students will be guided through the process by having series of discussion and self-reflections with regards to their respective research title. In

 

Part B of the assignment, students will be visiting a site that is rich in food culture. Students are asked to record their observation and findings in images and videos. By the end of the assignment, they are asked to collect the data, select and filter through the appropriate ones to be presented in the format requested. They will be able to show their perspective on food and culture in relation to their research findings by the end of the assignment.

PROJECT 2 - INTERPRETATION & ANALYSIS

For Assignment 2, the students will be translating the data collected and research into a visual representation of the chosen subject matter. Analysis of the data will be presented in forms of diagrams and short essays. To complete the whole research process, students are to present their findings in the end of the semester
