ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 2
Architecture Design Studio 2 introduces the principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking that are common in architecture field. The key emphasis of the studio is “User and Context”, which investigates the relationship between user and natural environment. In studio 2, we have an investigation of the architectural spaces through prototype studies, exploration of form and space through architectural conceptualization and finally design a weekend lodging that meets user requirements and engages with the site context.
Learning Outcomes
1. Generate design possibilities through the use of architectonics in a simple architectural form space and function
2. Explore architectural design through the abstraction of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional compositions of space
3. Interpret and analyze simple site context, client’s character and needs in relation to the design of a small building
4. Translate design ideas into habitable architectural spaces through drawing and making
5. Design a simple building type that meets user requirements and respects site context that balances both internal and external design values
PROJECT 1- DIAGRAMMATIC ANALYSIS
The first project of design studio 2 is to investigate and make analysis on the architectural elements such as lines, shapes and forms on the building that is assigned to us.
In this project, I am grouped with Pui Yan, Su Ling, Lek Yuen, Sarah and Arina. The building assigned for us is the Aurapin House by Boonlert, a famous architect in Thailand.
We are asked to study the buildings and come out with diagrammatic diagrams and models. This project helps us a lot in upcoming projects as we are able to make analysis to the architectural elements and understand the factors that affect the design.

PROJECT 2- TEA PAVILION
For project 2, in a group of 2, we are required to design a tea pavilion which correspond to the site given. The site given to us is Cameron Valley Tea House 1. Before we came out with the design concept, we pay a visit to Cameron Valley Tea Huse and analyse the site.
After analyzing the site, we came out with out with the design concept "Bridge Pavilion". By doing this project, we are able to generate structure, form and space through architectural conceptualization with the emphasis on the user requirement, ergonomics and site responding to develop an architectural proposition.

PROJECT 3- WEEKEND LODGING
For project 3, we are required to use back the same site as project 2 and design a weekend lodging for the users in tea pavilion. I have came out with the concept to adopt 2 families in my weekend lodging as I realized there are a lot of parents bringing little kids to Cameron Valley Tea House. By doing this project, I am able to understand the user specific design requirements and space, form and function in architectural design.
