3. Analyze and interpret he urban and cultural aspects of the city in relation to architecture and the built environment.

4. Produce creative production to visualize and represent the research outcomes.

PROJECT 1-CAPTURING , EXPERIENCING AND ANALYZING THE PLACE

The topic given to us is "The Ripples of Life". In a group of 5, we decided to choose Sin Szy Si Ya Temple as our case study by looking into its religious and spiritual aspects. Sin Sze Si Ya is an interesting temple with its history. The people in the temple has made up this place. Tourists visiting the temple, prayers burning the joysticks and papers, temple care takers folding the papers makes the temple comes to life.

PROJECT 2- VISUAL EXPRESSION

In this project, we are asked to translate the analysis interpreted from project one into an artwork. This artwork is to represent the quality and self- perception towards the place.

I've looked into the people in the temple as they are the one carry out the activities here and bring essence to the place. The name of my artwork is "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new landscape, but in having new eyes" - Marcel Proust

When you first stepped into Sin Sze Si Ya Temple, you can see people moving around vertically and horizontally due to the gridded arrangement of spaces and walkways.

When you step back and look at the temple in a different point of view, you may find the interesting pattern created by the people through the rigid connection in the temple. People tend to come and go just for prayers, but everyone has their own preferred path. These overlapping or intersecting connections bring the spaces together and creates a rhythm in the space.

The background is made of balsa wood which is cut into proportion and stack in few layers. It is to show the gridded arrangement and the nails follow the gridded square. Thin copper wire is used as it is not visible from far, when you look closer, you can see the pattern created in it. From side, can actually see the layering of balsa and the copper wire. This is to show that you have to look into detail of a space in order to get the beauty of it
